Matrox® Sheet

Röchling - Matrox® property:
With an exceptionally low coefficient of sliding friction, Matrox sheet enhances the movement of bulk materials.
Matrox®

Matrox® is the brand name for a family of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE or PE1000) sheets and liners manufactured by Röchling. It is specifically designed to optimize bulk material flow and discharge—essentially, it’s the lining you install on walls, floors, hoppers, chutes, and truck beds so materials slide off smoothly instead of sticking.

Key Benefits and Features of Matrox®

  • Very low sliding friction & anti-stick properties – keeps moist or sticky materials from adhering to surfaces, enabling smooth discharge.
  • Excellent wear and impact resistance, negligible moisture absorption, and strong chemical resistance – resulting in long service life and less downtime.
  • Noise reduction compared to metal and improved discharge safety thanks to reduced tipping angles.
  • Typical operating temperature range: Continuous use from about −80 °C to +80 °C, short-term up to +130 °C; for hot bulk materials, the U 110 grade can handle up to around +190 °C for limited periods.

Grades of Matrox®

The Matrox family includes several grades optimized for different conditions:

  • Matrox (classic): Extremely low friction + low wear; a versatile choice for sticky materials.
  • Matrox U 110: Stabilized for handling hot bulk materials like asphalt and tar; higher temperature resistance.
  • Matrox SE: Flame-retardant (UL94 V0), UV-stabilized, and anti-static for mining and outdoor use.
  • Matrox EX 60: Permanently anti-static; ATEX-compliant for explosive-risk zones, with high outdoor durability.
  • Matrox X: Premium grade for extreme wear and impact (sharp, coarse particles).
  • Matrox SI 12: A more economical option for low-to-medium duty (e.g., gravel, sand, wood).
  • Matrox FC: Food-contact approved (FDA) for food industry and bulk transport of edible materials.

Common Applications of Matrox®

Dump trucks and haul trucks, hoppers and silos, chutes and feeders, slider beds and scrapers, rail wagons, and temporary storage. Industries range from mining and cement to fertilizer, salt, synthetic gypsum, coal, clay, chemical powders, and wood chips. If a rough or corroded metal surface causes sticking, Matrox® usually delivers the “slippery rescue” you need.

Selection & Installation Tips

  • Select the grade based on temperature, stickiness/grain size, explosion risk (ESD), food-contact needs, and outdoor exposure. Official temperature charts for each grade are available in Röchling’s technical brochures.
  • Formats: In addition to standard sheets, “MegaSheets” up to 6000 × 2500 mm are available for fewer seams, and rolls/coils for truck bed lining—quicker installation and less welding.
  • Proper installation: Always allow for UHMW-PE thermal expansion; use special bolts/washers, hot-air weld seams, and edge seals to keep debris from getting underneath.

Quick Takeaway

If your problem is sticking and hang-up, severe wear, excess noise, or high discharge angles, Matrox® is often the best “ultra-low-friction, virtually unbreakable” liner. Then simply choose the grade according to your operating temperature, ESD/flame-retardancy needs, outdoor conditions, and food safety requirements.
